Best way to get cartoon like textures?

Anyone know where I can find some textures that will look good with the toon shaders? I can’t really find any cartoon like textures anywhere. Should I hand paint them? I don’t know if that’s a good idea for textures. If I should hand paint them then what free program should I use to do so?Thanks for any help.

The only good way to get them is hand paint them.

Any software recomendation for doing it?

Photoshop is a good start. You can also paint inside Blender or ZBrush or 3D-Coat (what I use)

For straight 2D toon graphics you can’t go past Toonboom Harmony/ Toonboom Animate

If you don’t want to pay for software, get GIMP. It’s quite like Photoshop.

Haven’t used it myself. You’ll also want to invest in a graphics tablet. It’ll make things a lot easier, quicker and more natural to do. Wacom Bamboo (Intuos, I think its called now) is a good starting point although, if you can afford it, an Intuos Pro is a great tablet (comes with Photoshop Elements, too).
