Best way to Tackle A scene with LOTS of vegetation?

Hey everyone. I’ve recently landed a contract to create a virtual visualization for a river bank landscaping project. I have never attempted an outdoors scene to this magnitude. to give you an idea here are some metrics…

roughly 450 meters long
near 460 trees/bushes
multiple islands of smaller brush/tall grass
18 or so specific types of plants.

Here are some pics.

Blocking out In maya. Tall Cylinders are plants/bushes. Long boxes are smaller brush/tall grass. That tiny speck in the bottom right hand corner is a human model to scale.

Here are the plants.

I was wondering if there were any production techniques to ensure an optimized scene. I’ve looked into Unity’s Tree Maker and I believe I can get nice enough results…but its ALOT of trees. Is tree maker optimized to support this much vegetation and still run at a nice clip on average computers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And sorry if I am posting in the wrong sub forum. I didn’t find a topic on general scene building/optimization.

You can check this package. It’s ideal if you need to draw a huge amount of vegetation. We have tested with millions of trees, and works like a charm.
