When you install Unity, it can’t be paused , your computer must stay on and you must install Unity and wait for it to finish. Why not proposing an installation system like Unreal 4 or CryEngine, where we can pause the installation and resume it when we want ?
Not everyone lives in Silocone Valley! You should come to Australia. An hour for the download would be considered pretty decent.
My solution is to download the appropriate offline installers. Modern browsers can pause and restart as needed. And then you can keep the installer for the future.
Offline installers can be found under the additional downloads link in the Get Unity page.
The problem is that the offline installers themselves are kinda super beefy, especially when all you want to install is the engine, docs, and windows/mac exports.
Heck, in the middle of Oregon, the connectivity is better than here. I pin at about 10mb a second, my sister gets nearly 20 in Eugene on standard Comcast.
That seems to be pretty slow unless you install every component. What I select is usually about 3.4 gigabytes total and It takes definitely less than half an hour (download speed is about 44Mbps according to online speed test)…feels like 15 minutes or less.
Pfft. I’m in the Silicon Prarie (Omaha, NE). I’ve got fiber though, gigabit. Microsoft gave away a bunch of free ebooks and gave a text file with links… I wrote a console app to parse the file and download 396 simultaneously. Pulled 4.01 Gigabytes in 1 Minute, 4 Seconds. But, that’s pretty unusual. Unity’s servers either can’t handle that kind of bandwidth or throttle it per connection because it takes a bit for me to download as well (though not an hour).
It would be a nice addition to be able to pause the Unity downloads, like with Steam game downloads. I am currently stuck on not just DSL but slow DSL here for the time being, so when I install Unity I just start the download and go to bed.
I cannot find the offline installer link on the Get Unity page. Am I missing something? Could someone point me in the right direction?
I need to install Unity on 8 machines (for teaching) and here in Zambia our internet is not the best. I would prefer to only download the required 10-12gb one time.
The problem is that I have already tried those links.
From the Unity Download Archive page…if I select:
Unity 5.5.2 > Downloads (Win) > Unity Installer
I still get the Unity Installer that tries to download/install it on a single machine. Is there a way that I can download the entire setup in an offline installer which I can then use on the other machines?
Thanks,
Jester
EDIT: I would like to be able to insert a download link for the entire Unity setup into a download program (Free Download Manager). This is the only way I would be able to download the software as our internet is not stable and fast enough to be able to download/install everything in one shot.
Plus I definitely would like to be able to simply archive the installation on a network drive so I can easily retrieve it.
What @Ryiah said is exactly the case. You have to select the other download options to download the full bits but you have to download multiple files, not just one monolithic package, so you’ll need to use the torrent if you want the whole shebang.
While I’m luckily on the new network being developed and get ~8mb a second (that’s a few percent of the country), here I think the average connection is about 300 to 500kb a second.
That’s for downloads. Uploads are a fraction of that again…
