Big Numbers Fair or Bigger Numbers Kinda Fair

Just wanted to get some opinions on HD and non HD in that, I have built my app. In itself, it is able to run HD or non HD. My original plan was to just charge a single price, with it, you get the app that will run perfectly on either tablet or phone. However, I would obviously be losing any "double up " sales, sales where one buys a copy for each device.

What is the boards opinion? Be a greedy son of a gun, or just be a little more honest? Not sure if honest is the word, but you get the idea.

Cheers!

I think universal apps are the way to go, especially if you’re a small dev. Only one app to update and every install helps the ranking.

For our first game, we had two different versions for iPhone and iPad. The iPad version is selling considerably less (even at equal price). For our next game (in review!), we went with universal. It is a pain updating two different versions any time you want to make a minor change (well, actually three versions with the free version). And I think the users appreciate not having to download two different apps just to switch between iPhone and iPad.

Awesome. Fair is fair. I am just not going to use the HD.

Your iPad downloads wont’ factor in to your chart rankings in the iPhone apps section. iPhone and iPad apps are ranked separately, even if they’re the same app.

Also, you can’t charge more for the HD version if it’s done like this. The users typically wouldn’t even consider it being a unfair thing that there’s a HD and non-HD version.

You also get the chance for double the exposure, one might take off, the other not. We have MMR HD and MMR, and both have had a feature or two, but the HD one sits much higher in the charts year round, whereas MMR sits lower but spikes a lot higher when featured (apple just did a ‘casual game of the year’ thing which we managed to get, helpful).
