billboards or fur shader?

Hi. I have to put a mane on a character: do you suggest the use of a billboard, or some special adaptation of the fur shader?

Manes are hair more than fur, so I’d go about it like i would go about hair. I’d just make some polygons coming out of the horse’s neck, that curve down to the ground. maybe with a skinned cloth component so it can move nicely.

Ok for this: but what if I should put also hair on the character?

No more replies. As usual. Too bad a community.

I think it’s a helpful community, the problem is the forums don’t show solved like most. So, people see there has been a reply and assume the topic is solved. Many don’t check threads with 1 or more replies, and instead look for threads with 0 replies to ensure everyone is assisted.

As well, the problem could be your grammar. "Ok for this: but what if I should put also hair on the character? " makes no sense to me.

Hi Corey.

I agree with your first line. But I guess also that people who already knows things about this software, “helps” mostly other people with an “optimal” degree of knowledge of the matter, like they were presuming that everybody should come here learned in all parts of the business. As a reply to these kind of persons, well, I can say that if I’ll be successful in realizing my project, I’ll put a tutorial on it.

And… yes, my grammar is bad, I know: I admit it, and it is 'cause I’m a foreigner. But I asked just how to apply also the hair to the character, that’s all.

I actually did see your followup question and meant to answer it, but to illustrate I needed a file which I only have at home(I’m at work at the moment), and I completely forgot about it. Then you edited your post(it was about goats and cats and stuff before) and the reply I had in mind no longer seemed relevant, and I had trouble understanding your new question(and still do).

I edited the post 'cause I liked to formulate it in a non-specific manner, fearing that a specific argument about some specific characters had been confusing for someone, due nobody had replied so far. Ok anyway; I’ll be waiting for news. TY for now.
