A while back I had this idea of a game where you flew around as a hawk hunting, with young to feed back at a nest. I wrote a simple outline (GDD) thing this week and whipped up a prototype. It’s a rapid prototype from today, so I am aware of glitches, issues.
Older Screengrab:
So today I worked a little more on it.
Integrated some new camera effects. Added in a visual countdown slider to represent the youngun’s hunger pains. Fixed stuttering physics issues with the camera following and turning around player. Improved sense of speed. Added in some very rough environment artwork (stand-in) ground textures.
Updated the web player file today. Worked on some of the physics issues some more (going through ground). Hooked in the GUI meter for the hatchling’s hunger…it now updates when you bring back a dead “rat” otherwise seen as a blue and red sphere right now. Made the trigger box for “snatching” up ground rodents a bit larger, so now it’s easier to pick them up. Also made the rodent’s surrounding trigger sphere larger too (improve detection). Still missing some animations, i.e. when the hawk is carrying a carcass back his feet are still up and not down carrying as they should be. Also I’ve added in some wind sounds based on the speed of your bird.
New website up to officially host the web playable version. Game has no logo or demo graphics, and no official web URL so I’m using my own host’s free domain for now. It’s all pretty vanilla right now.
EDIT - Revamped the web site, got the game logo going in the header. Also got some forums going on the site for constructive feedback!
Updated a few new things. Added in new GUI elements for health. Changed up the controls a bit too. Feedback from some folks resulted in what I feel is more intuitive for keyboard control.
