BitDrill

Hi there everyone!
Well, after a long time looking at these forums, I’m finally posting my game.

The game is named BitDrill and is a project I started recently. It has a minecraft-looking visual style, and involves mining.
The basic idea is you mine to get silver, gold, and diamonds. The farther you go, the harder it gets. You can upgrade your drill to aid in your mining. The game is networked for LAN, so you can play with your friends. Eventually I hope to add some PvP, but right now it’s just mining. You can also build, for those who want to make their mine shaft pretty :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s still got a ways to go, but I like how it is so far. For those of you who are interested in this project, I will hopefully keep this thread alive, but you can also find the game at http://bitdrill.wordpress.com/

Just a few notes:

To start your own server to play with friends over LAN, click ‘Start Server’.

To connect to someone else’s computer, simply type in their IP, and then type 25000 under the port. (Make sure they have already started a server)

The game as of now is highly unoptimized. Hope you have a good computer, but prepare for lag.

The world takes awhile to load. Please resist the urge to force quit and wait patiently

Do not jump off the edge of the world.

The little ‘loading’ text doesn’t disappear even after it loads the world…

Here it is!

Enjoy!

EDIT:
Controls:
WASD or arrows to move
mouse to look
left hold to drill
right click to place
L to lock/unlock mouse
H to open store
U to upgrade drill
1 for regular walking mode
2 for drill mode
3 for freeze gun mode (not really implemented)
< and > to cycle blocks

Well, here it is! version 0.5! What does this version contain?

-A store to upgrade your suit, drill, and buy weapons.

-Player automatically re-spawns when he loses his health

-Temperature system

-World by seed system

A lot of development has gone by that I haven’t blogged about, but the game is getting pretty awesome

The building and destroying of blocks is still pretty slow, but hopefully that will be fixed by next build.

Controls:

WASD or Arrow keys

Mouse to look

Space to jump

Hold left mouse to drill (only works in build/drill mode)

Click right mouse to build (only works in build/drill mode)

< and > to cycle through blocks

1 – Walk mode

2 – Build/drill mode

3 – Freeze fire gun

4 – Grenade launcher (A lot of fun, takes out a lot of dirt)

H opens store when you have a signal (store controls are found next to what you want to purchase)

F – night vision (only in purple suit or higher)

Q – zoom in

How to play:

Drill down beneath the surface to expose minerals. Bronze can be found in dirt. The rest of the minerals are in stone. Other minerals you may encounter are silver, gold, amethyst and diamond (although I think a programming error may have caused this to be removed :/)

It gets harder to dig the farther you get down, so you may want to upgrade your suit and drill frequently.

Also, keep an eye on the thermometer. The number next to the parenthesis tells you what temperature you can withstand up to. The temperature cycles. It goes up and down. When it goes up, you can hop down and mine. When it goes down, you will want to reach higher ground and hope it goes down to a reasonable temperature! Better suits can withstand lower temperatures.

For advanced users, mine laying is rather simple. Merely select the mine block like you would any other block, and place it. Mines activate after five seconds I think, so be careful! You can disarm a mine by running your drill on it while walking toward it. You ought to see the mine disappear when you get close enough.

Have fun!
(feedback is appreciated, please comment if you play!)

It actually looks pretty decent to be honest, has a long way to go in terms of GUI, but the basic core gameplay seems to be fine for such an early version of the game :).

Thanks Justei!
Yes, the game does need GUI simplification, the GUI is a bit gross :stuck_out_tongue:
