Black scene - Ubuntu 14.04 - Dell XPS 13 Dev Edition (9343-Intel Graphics)

Hi,

I’m getting a black scene, new projects and existing projects also, after installing and running
unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64 on a Dell XPS 13 Dev Edition 2015, that has Intel Graphics and the latest drivers on it.

Attached screenshot and Editor.log. Anything that I could check?

I would like to use my computer to create my Unity3d projects instead of a virtual machine that runs pretty slower.

Any help appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Iosune.

Why are you not running the latest one? http://download.unity3d.com/download_unity/unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015090301_amd64.deb

Thanks, I removed the previous one, and installed the latest one, but I got the same black scene.

Any more ideas?

In your Unity Preferences… This may sound silly but, what is your ‘background’ color? and ‘grid’ color?

Edit: Also, is this directly after a ‘new project’ and ‘new scene’?

Hi,
Nothing is silly if it helps… See attached, that is not the problem.

I tried with an existing project that I am developing in a VM, and a new project also. Both have the same behaviour (you can check the original post, there it is the existing project, where you can see the game view but nothing in the scene view.

Hi
This is the way I solved it.
1 uninstall the driver, don’t to this using update drivers. Use the command prompt. Sorry can remember command, just do a google search.
2 restart , make sure you’re running xorg drivers.
3 install custom drivers. I think it’s just the basic driver not experimental?
4 restart, should now work

If not go through the steps and use experimental.

Knobby, has this worked for you running Intel Graphics? In the other thread (http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/scene-window-pitch-black.350512/#post-2333521) you mentioned you were using AMD drivers.

I’m running the XPS 9343 as well and haven’t been able to find a fix so far.

Thanks, I configured the drivers many times without any solution. So I’m not the only one having this issue, that’s something.

Hi,

Finally resolved.

I installed these alternative drivers two days ago, and today they had an update, and the latest version of unity editor that was posted on the main thread of the forum

Build #2015091501

Official Installer for 64-bit Ubuntu Linux:
http://download.unity3d.com/download_unity/unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015091601_amd64.deb

Install Updated and Optimized Open Graphics Drivers

I am showing one example and you can check here the packages list.

Open the terminal and run the following commands

If you want to uninstall the PPA run the following commands from your terminal

@mkpsolutionsltd could you use the ‘insert quote’ option in the edit toolbar so you don’t have emotes and such in the post? Just so users can understand it’s : and a o, instead of :hushed:. But that’s awesome you posted the solution!

Edit: P.S. I personally prefer xorgedgers though for open source video driver packages. They’re a team instead of just someone. (more official!)

No way of omitting the :hushed:… I tried with quote, but still appears.

Thanks for you reply, I just tried with those drivers and update to the latest version… and it’s working, so I’ll keep it as it is now.

Oh, really? Hmm…

Darn. :p

If only they allowed a generic CODE, or something (without C#, JS, or Boo) to see non-emoticon text haha.
