So I’m developing a VR game that involves weapons that can switch between a sword and a gun, and I had no problem with the gun and shooting mechanics, but the sword is proving to be more tricky. Since this is a VR game, I would rather not have the enemies get sliced up, as watching human models get dismembered in VR can be rather disturbing for some. Also, mesh slicing assets are extremely pricey and I don’t have any money to spend on this game. Instead I would like red slash marks to appear on the enemy without actually cutting the mesh. I’m not too good with graphics, so I’m not really sure where to start, but I know I would rather use an animated skinned mesh, although I can settle for a static mesh if necessary. This picture from the anime Sword Art Online illustrates what I’m talking about.
If anyone could help that would be great, thank you for taking the time to read this!
