Bleed-in effect

I’m looking for a way to create a bleed-in alpha effect for an object
that is instantiated after a button is pressed. The effect would begin in the center of the 2D image and reveal outward until the entire object is visible. Any advice on how to do this?

Sounds like you need a material with animated transparency map.
