Hi there,
I am using the free Blender download for Mac. I am following along with an online tutorial but have immediately hit a snag.
The instructor informs us to set the Select Mode to Verticie. I checked the manual however the btns, used in this and in the video do not seem to exist.
I should be able to select Edit, then find it in there, but even Edit, does not seem to exist.
To go into edit mode, you can use the shortcut key TAB, which also brings you back out of edit mode. You can also see the button below that has a little cube and says “object mode” on it. Click on it and it will bring up options for different modes.
About the type of selection modes, there is vertex, edge, and face mode. It lets you modify those parts directly, which has certain uses which you learn as you go along. Once you are in edit mode, you will be able to see a few more buttons, 3 of which let you decide the selection mode.
I have another question. I have two verticie. I have them both selected, and am in Edit Mode. I want to create an edge. I have pressed F, but nothing is happening.
That is a strange one. The only thing that occurs to me is if you are somehow making the edge but not being able to see it for some reason. Try selecting 3 or 4 vertices, and making a full tri or quad. See if that works, and let us know if that works. Also, a screenshot could possibly help us figure it out.
I only see selected the top vertex where the gizmo is at. The gizmo stays in the middle of whatever is selected so if you were to have a second vertex selected it would be in between them. Also, the other selected vertex would be yellow. The last indicator is how you can see the yellow on the edge. If you had both vertices of that edge selected, the whole edge would be yellow, but since only one is, you can see that blend going on.
I think what may be confusing you is the left/right button for selection. A left click by default moves the “cursor” which is the thing on the lower left vertex. It is used basically as a control point. When you add something(like a sphere for example) it gets centered on that point. You can also use it as a center point for rotations and other similar things. But it can’t be used for selecting. You would use the right mouse button for selecting. Then use the shift button to add to the selection. Once you have both selected, pressing F would make an edge. But…that still wouldn’t make a face. You would just have 3 edges that may not actually be a face. You need to specifically make it a face by selecting all three verts(which forces all 3 edges to be selected as well) and pressing F. Note that you can have nothing but the 3 verts, even with no edges, and press F and it will automatically create the edges between the verts and make a face out of them for you, so there is no need to first create that edge you are missing in the picture.
