Blender

I took a look at the Blender website. The program looks pretty awsome. Best of all it is free.:sunglasses: I see it is used for 3d animations, gaming and pictures. So does this means the program has the ability to give a character bones, or is this already available in unity?

yes you can create a bone structure using blender. No you cant do that in Unity.

Blender and unity can work together you can make land scapes etc for Unity i think!

Blender and Unity work practically seamlessly together. With a bit of tweaking, I’ve been able to build an entire game with completely original models only using Blender for modeling. Unity does not have tools to create bone structures, however, it requires a modeling program to do that.

So I dont need a a program to create terrains in such?

nope you can make them in blender or in unity.

Although I’m fairly sure it would be easier to do within Blender?

Nope

Blender used to have a part for visual programming of games. I wonder why that bit didn’t catch on? I also remember some French guy single-handedly releasing a very pro-looking visual game-builder (game logic connected by mouse) back in 2003. I’ve lost sight of that system, I guess he was integrated into some commercial venture.

Why did Unity 3D succeed where they failed?

So you can rig a character easier in Unity than in Blender…? It just doesn’t sound right to me but that’s providing I got it right in thinking he meant rig something with bones like a character and not just apply a joint to an object in which case it would be more easier to do in Unity…

He was talking about terrains. You can’t rig a character in Unity (well you could, via code, but it would be ugly), use blender for rigging.

Depends on what you want to do.

Blender lets you create you 3D models that overlap and have a more precise control over fine details in the textures.

Unity’s terrain is way better at generating Engine-fiendly Landscapes with dynamic animations and much more.
Read through Unity’s documentation on what the terrains inside unity can do.

Ideally you’ll mix Unity terrain and Blender created models.

Look around the various sites to get to know how 3D works.
The Polycount Forums are a good place to get very detailed infos on 3D.
These forums here will get you started with unity help.

Just look around and search for information on anything 3D if you’re interested in the graphic side of things. It’s a vast field and yiou’ll have to start somewhere.
