Maybe I’m missing some certain keywords but I’m not finding any info on Google on ways to set up a character to become a bloody mess. How do you go about preparing a model and scripting a game for dismemberment and tons of gore? Gibs were pretty much started with doom and other games after that. But I cannot seem to find any gib models free or paid to use for my game.

1: Can someone link any info on how to set up a character to be dismembered

2: How would you make small chunks fly out and blood, also are there any free models of body chunks I’ve searched and searched and have found nothing.

3: Does blowing off a chunk of the head or body require you to set up the 3d model in pieces? If so, how do you keep them seamless when the model is not blown up yet?

4: Any info on this process at all. I’m not a modeler so the simpler the better.

Hi There

You will probably have more luck finding info on this just by researching ‘destruction’ in unity. Ultimately you’re trying to acheive the classic effect of taking an object in the world and making it appear to turn into a set of smaller chunks, plus some particle effects to make it look cooler (and also hide any slight inconsistencies that occur).

In a car game, this would be taking the original car model, removing it, and replacing it with a load of different blackened car parts with forces applied to them to push them outwards. On top of that you’d probably spawn an explosion to look cool and also hide the fact that your spawned parts probably don’t perfectly reflect the car itself.

In your game, instead of a car you just want chunks of person! You’ll get the best results by taking a character model, loading it up in a modeller like blender and chopping it up into small bits. Although you’ll probably want a few extra arbitrary ‘chunks’ to throw out to make it look a little cooler.
