I have recently been contacted to review a book about Unity multiplayer games. I find this both flattering and also a bit odd. I don’t consider myself an expert on Unity although our game is coming along pretty well. Anyway, have you ever received one of these? Did you go for it? Positive/negative experience?
BTW, the book is of Unity 3… First thing maybe would be to update it to Unity 4 before publishing I guess
I don’t know how it works at Packt, but the technical reviewer for my book published by Apress spent a lot of time on it and it required multiple passes because I kept making a lot of changes.
I reviewed Will Goldstones, and half of Ryan Creightons, but since then theres been criticism of Packt Books and the lack of attention to details. Its a shame because both the books I reviewed I put heaps of time into to make sure they were as accurate and helpful as possible.
Other Packt Unity books: Not so much it seems.
But if you don’t have multiplayer experience I’d recommend turning it down else it becomes exactly what is wrong with Packt IMO
If it’s anything like my experience, there are a lot of people involved in putting the book together (in my case, I know of at least five editors involved with the book), so no matter how meticulous the author and reviewer are, someone else can always introduce problems.
