Brighten the entire view when looking at a directional light (or an HDRI light source)

I’ve been lurking these forums for almost 6 months now, but realized that I should finally make a post. So, hi everyone!

I’d like to simulate the effect of your eyes burning / hurting when you look at the sun. Kind of like eye fatigue.

The idea is not just the sun source (which is present in my HDRI) getting brighter but all objects in the entire scene gets brighter as if the exposure is getting risen. I was hoping that there is a way for the effect to increase as your view gets closer to having the sun in the center of your view.

I’ve tried playing around with image effects like blooms, flares, and eye adaptation, but nothing seems to evenly brighten or gain up the exposure of the entire image as you look towards a light source.

Does anyone know if such solution exists?

I don’t know what post you are using, but isn’t what you’re talking about just cranking up the exposure? Just use any color corrector.

Hi AcidArrow. Thanks for the reply.

My key effect here is to have this brightness effect only when looking at the sun. So when looking away from the sun, the brightness change is 0, but when you point the camera to the sun, it increasingly gets brighter depending on the direction of the camera.

So I guess the question isn’t about which tool to use for the change in luminance, but more so of how to link or expression this brightness change to the angle/direction that the camera is pointing in.

Would this question be better suited in the scripting forum?
