bug database link policy

The Unity support email acknowledgments that include the link to the bug entry in the database are great (a vast improvement over the pre-fogbugz days), but I’m wondering, what’s they Unity policy on those links? Are they intended for the reporter’s convenience only and not for public eyes, or can I, for example, post it in the forums here - “I reported that bug last month, here’s the link…”

I don’t think we have a policy against community members sharing links. Just bear in mind that the web page you give others access to will have your email address shown, and a list of all the other bugs that you have submitted. You may or may not care about this. (We assume that all correspondence with unity is confidential, so you can send in artwork and script knowing that we won’t share it. If you do give out links to your bugs, then you are making everything you have asked us public.)

Hope that helps,
Graham

Oh, yeah, I see my email address in the followup sections of the bug reports (looks like there may have been a period where that address was out of commission and I didn’t reply - sorry about that). Also I see at least one individual Unity staff email address there.

I like having an open bug database, and I’ve been sharing links to my bug reports, but I think the current bug system should be more secure, e.g. a login for each user. I expect most people who use the bug reporter are assuming the report is completely confidential. Right now the system is in-between - neither completely confidential nor completely open.
