Bug? Mesh filter not being attached to skinned mesh renderer

Basically, my skinned meshes are being instantiated without mesh filters. The reference manual says they should be instantiated with mesh filters, but they are not. This is a large problem as I need to be able to programmatically instantiate my objects, and I can’t just make prefabs where i’ve manually dragged mesh filters to compensate for this bug.

If it all helps, these are blender models that I’m instantiating. Non-skinned meshes will have mesh filters put on as appropriate.

Dragging the models in will also result in the models without mesh filters.

This actually wouldn’t be a problem if I could just access what seems to be an inaccessible ‘mesh’ variable for the skinned mesh renderer.

-edit-sent a bug report in as well with one of these models that has this problem. Maybe it will help.

That does not make sense. A skinned mesh doesn’t use a Mesh Filter. If it says this, then the documentation is a bug. Where is that written?

How is it inaccessible?

Guess I"m an idiot for not seeing that variable. The ‘shared’ part made me miss it I suppose.

And where the documentation says it should have a mesh filter:

Unless you have heard back already, you should probably follow up with your bug and request it be closed, so that the QA team doesn’t waste any time. I just reported a bug about the documentation:

Does that sound more clear to you?
