Build PS3 Games?

How i can test a game in ps3 with free version? i just want to test it on ps3 and not publish it.

I can’t export my test-project for ps3, so i can’t see how it looks-runs on PS3 :frowning:

Quote from https://store.unity3d.com/purchasing_options

"Unity Pro for consoles

Platform-holder-certified companies already use Unity Pro to develop content for Xbox 360, and PS3 and deployment to Wii U will be available very soon. Unity has also announced upcoming support for PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One.

Contact our sales team for further information about acquiring a console license. Remember that only once you have Sony or Microsoft certification can you develop games for PS3 or Xbox 360."

short answer: you cant publish for your ps3

I don’t want to publish ps3 games.

I just want to see how games looks on PS3 (Graphics Quality).

I want to put game on usb and then check it on ps3.

Thats all…, i can do this with unity3d free edition? still need to get “ok” from sony in this case?

Sorry for my bad english!

You can’t and they won’t give you an “ok”.
Consoles are called closed-platforms for a reason.
Also, how many indie games are there on the PS3? How many of these were only allowed to enter the PS3 after being successful on the PC first?

i think the closest you could get would be to run something as wii homebrew. theres an engine called wire3d that can export a unity3d project (not completely though, you have to do some manual work as well) and if you have the homebrew channel installed on your wii you might be able to get something running. i dont know if anything like this exists for ps3 though. i just found out about this when i read this thread and did a bit of googling on it. i might actually try it out.

You have to have the license, even if you just want to test something out real quick.

The best you can do is create a good game, get it published to Steam, have it gather a lot of interest, then after selling a pretty good amount of it, contact Sony for a license, then if they grant it to you, you can then port the game over to PS3.

I know, seems a bit complex, but Sony aren’t just going to give a license out to any old Joe who wants to make a game for PS3/Ps4 - they want to make sure you’re a good publisher, and won’t be filling the PS Store with crap.

If you want to develop for a console, Unity does have a way to export to the OUYA, which I plan to build one of my games for. But again, you have to fill out all kinds of tax info if you plan to sell your games on the OUYA store, but that’s normal for any game store.

I’ve always been a firm believer of if there’s a will there’s a way, well anyways all you really have to do is figure out a way to upload to your playstation which can be done using MYSQL I believe or just a plain ole media server, I do know playstation 2 used .psk files I’m not sure what they use now? But have you ever heard of people playing pirated ps3 games? well bingo theres your answer these other guys might be afraid to tell you that somewhere out there is a pirated engine/ compiler aka unity pro with/ of course no license but only the ability to compile to ps3 / xbox once you compile it theres gotta be away to be a “fake playstation company” to make your console act like it’s just a normal copyrighted game ;0

This is not a legit way of getting games onto a console and since most people who ask about getting games onto it are doing so because they wish to monetize their games this solution is a complete waste of time. Acquiring a license from the console manufacturers is actually very easy and has reasonably low requirements.

On the other hand if you’re solely interested in this for giggles, just buy a controller and hook your PC up to a TV. You’ll achieve far better performance and won’t have to deal with shady techniques that can potentially damage the console.

By the way discussions related to piracy tend to lead towards bans. I recommend not doing that on these forums.

This may be stepping over the line so I will give very little info thats useful but you can run homebrew games on a ps4. There are several communities devoted to “jailbreaking” them and they claim its for this reason. I would imagine most of these people do it for less than honorable intentions so I’m not naming names or pointing you towards them. A google search can easily give you what you need. Its still technically illegal but in my opinion not ethically wrong as long as your doing it for your own homebrew games and not trying to make any money or pirate any games. The only reason I even say this is because the original poster made it clear that he was not looking to publish or sell his game and he just wanted to see it run on his ps4. From a fellow tinkerer I can understand the curiosity but its easy to fall into moral grey and even go full on dark side so be careful to only do what is actually right and dont try to steal stuff ok.

Indeed priacy talk isn’t allowed, but I’m not sure it’s even relevant. Pirated games are already compiled for the platform. It’s existing data. You can’t just “upload” a game built with unity and have it work. You need the sdk. If you have the sdk and key(s) you you can

@Ryiah is on the money. If you’re serious, contact Sony for an sdk. If just for fun, get a controller and hdmi cable.
