So, I’m pretty tired of dealing with Unity’s built-in debug console window. What developer only ever cares to jump to the final method in a log’s callstack? Wouldn’t it be so much more useful if you could double click on any row of the callstack and go to that file location (if it’s a local source file, of course). Also the ability to view the log in “slim” mode (where one log line = one console line, without an icon)
Well, I wanted to just build this using a custom editor script, but I’m not yet a UnityEditor ninja, and am running into a couple roadblocks (potentially impassible).
Firstly, simply making the nice clean selectable/scrollable row view for the console lines isn’t as intuitive as I’d thought. I suppose I could use some sort of SelectionGrid, but without some serious skin overhauls, it’ll probably make your eyes bleed.
Secondly, (and perhaps more importantly) I have no clue how I can trigger MonoDevelop (or any editor) to open a file to a location when you double click on a log line. There very well may be no way to do this with an editor script, but I was hoping there would be some way to use the Assembly class and some reflection to achieve this.
If anyone has any ideas on how one might go about building this extremely desirable feature, please let me know, and I’d be happy to post the final code here and on the wiki.
Thanks in advance!
