Building a city for a car game

Hey guys

first of all, my name is Dominik from Germany, I’m going to study informatics in about 2 months. I just started becoming familiar with Unity as I only did some scripting and modeling some years ago and I needed every information I could get. Now, after working through several tutorials, which are indeed great for beginners, I’m beginning to get a basic understanding about how everything works together.

Well, my first project will be creating a 3d city using the example of a city near me. Seems like I’d have a lot of tools to start with, e.g. easyroads or road network generator. However, before I begin, what would you say is the best way to start with?
Should I use a tool to build roads in Unity or is it better to build the hole city using for example Blender and later import it to Unity as I want to create specific intersections with more than one or two lines?

I’d really appreciate any help! :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I say model the whole thing yourself.

Ok, thank you for that comment. Could you be more precisely? Why do you think that’s better?

I’m really thankful for any suggestion of you guys, so please give me some advice :frowning:

Hi,

I’d suggest you to model everything in your modelling app, like blender modo maya etc. Plugins like easy roads are made for easily building roads on terrains, which isn’t a snap to model. Cities, though, don’t necessarily require a terrain so they’re better completely done without Unity

Okay, thanks for your advice

I will try Blender, otherwise I’ll use an old version of 3ds max I once got on eBay.

LOL. Not a good idea to tell the world you use pirate software.

Listen to da Bawss!
