Hello soon I am gonna buy a new pc that I will use a lot with unity, so I wanted to ask some expert what are the best factor for unity development.
For example i7 is a good improvement or i5 is more than enough? More cores, more clock, what matters most? Ram I will go with 16 so I guess I am covered there. Is video card important at all?
Cores. Cores all the way.
A full lighting build for a big level in Unity can take many hours. But Unity (Enlighten) lighting builds scale really well to large numbers of CPU cores.
There was a huge price drop in used Xeon E5-2670 (v1) CPUs at the beginning of the year. They’ve been as low as $50 a piece. Their per-core performance is all but identical to the current models.
I’m currently running two Xeon E5-2680 on an Asus Z9-PE D8 WS motherboard for 16 cores / 32 HT threads and lighting build time for a large scene went from 6 hours (1x 6 core CPU 3.3 GHz) down to 90 minutes (2x 8 core CPUs 3.1 GHz).
