Hi everyone,
I use a Windows PC and I’ve uploaded my game to Steam without issue, for Windows.
I also want to build for Mac and upload to Steam as well. However, last time I exported a Mac build and tried it on an Apple lap top, it didn’t let me open the app due to security issues.
I’m worried that if I build and upload a Mac version to Steam, it might have some sort of issue.
That leads to my 1st question:
- Does Steam override all the notarization stuff that complicates the Mac build? Ie, they take care of this security issue and the game will download/open w/o issues.
Next, I also need help w/ the following:
Steam doesn’t give me the option for separating for Silicon vs Intel 64. It just says … “Mac”.
I assume it’s best to build for Intel 64 and Silicon architectures all together in one build, and just upload that to Steam? The downside according to Unity docs is that the build size will be larger.
Thanks!
Dave
You need a mac to build for mac and ios devices
But Unity allows you to build for Mac, using a PC. So I’m not sure what the point would be if that was the case?
It actually running is the point. Windows can’t sign mac applications in the last few macos releases I think
Well that’s unfortunate. So what do I do now? Just buy a new apple computer to build for mac?
Is it even worth building for Mac? Interesting…
Yep, gotta get a mac. VM based macs did not work for me due to the lack of hardware keys.
If you buy a ‘cheap’ M2 mac mini, maybe used, I’d say it can be worth it if your game would run okay on it
Thank you for the insight. I will purchase a mac. It’s so unfortunate how Apple always has the feeling of making you spend more than you want. They just seem so exclusive and find ways to jab money from your pocket some how.

Yep, and don’t forget the $100/yr fee to use all ios development features

Do you know if the $100/yr fee is still applied if you are not doing mobile builds? Just Mac build for higher end games?
You gotta look that up, not sure
