Hi,
I’m currently developing a card game for the web. I started with Unity 3.5 free and Upgraded to Unity4 pro.
The problem is that, from that moment, I haven’t been able to show any intermediary development stage outside of my office. Unity4 doesn’t seem to build for any other web player than the version 4 beta.
I have this big disclaimer at the top of my screen :
“Built with beta version of Unity. Will only work on your computer!”
The release date of our game is nearing and I don’t see any shipping date for Unity 4 Web Player anywhere.
Is there a way to build for former version of the web player (say 3.5
) with Unity 4 ?
Thank you for your help !
Hi,
Releasing WebPlayer builds with unreleased software isn’t advised, you will see an auto-update error appear and no one will be able to play your game / app. The reason for this is because the current most up to date version which is live is 3.5.6, so the files it’s fetching from the server are not compatible with 4.0.
We ship the WebPlayer and up date the WebPlayer files on our servers when 4.0 is released.
There is no option to build for previous versions with Unity 4.0. You can only build for the version your using.
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks Chris for the 7 minutes answer !
That’s what I was fearing. It seems that we won’t be able to deliver our game on the web before the release of Unity4.
I suppose you are not allowed to communicate any hint on the release date ? Maybe you can give us a week, a month, ever a quarter would be greatly appreciated, just to reassure our producer
