Bump Mapping problem (420996)

Can anyone tell me what this is about? I basically never get true bump mapping, you can see in this example that the preview is correct however the results are ugly no matter how I position lights.

I have tried altering the bump value and it is nothing to do with this.

It has never worked for me.

I have always had this doppled effect essentially the specular component only, and the bump component itself has not worked. I’ve tried all kinds of lights.

If anyone can send me a scene that works, or point to an example I will download and show what happens on my screen. I am wondering if I have a bug.

I have a Sapphire Radeon 4890.

I’ve tried emulation modes and nothing. I’ve moved lights around. I’m sure its not a noob problem.

It does this with every bump map and I’ve used several methods to obtain these

I cant find anyone else with this problem, yours all working fine?

Please help. Somebody must have had a similar problem and fixed it, or someone have some other suggestions?

Perhaps try posting more information, e.g.: how is your material configured? What does your bump map look like? Did you read the Bumpmap FAQ?

My guess is that either you’re trying to apply a greyscale bumpmap directly without converting it into a normal map, or possibly that you are using a normal map in the wrong format… You haven’t posted enough information to tell which.

After some struggling it looks as though its to do with the built in bump map generator. I managed to get a stock bump map working.

I’m not entirely sure, however the solution appears to be trial and error rather than any advice. So thread solved I guess.

Can we see the result?
