In my game you have the ability to swoop down from very high above a terrain to very close to it as you focus on different spots. I’ve been trying to decide whether a detail map or a bump map would be best for adding a sense of detail as the camera closes on the terrain, or whether it would be worth trying to get a bumped detail shader to do both. Both the detail and bumped shaders seem to do similar things in their source code (just at a glance), so perhaps trying to roll the two shaders together would be redundant. Any thoughts?
A detail would be quicker on graphics cards as you wouldnt need a pixel light…
Id like to see a bump/detail in action, I dont think theres one available to non coders at this point…
Aras teased me with an rgba shader that stores different details in each channel…So its doable…
