Bumpers and their Collider logic - Help

Ok, so i am trying to figure out how i would go about creating a simple bumper. The kind you would see in a pinball game for example. To be honest, im just drawing blanks everywhere. i tried using OnTriggerEnter with a few physics materials in place with lots of bounce, and if i let my object roll on its own into the bumper , it does indeed bounce slightly. However, if i am moving the object with input, when i collide head first still moving forward , there is no bonce at all.

I would like to create the effect of quite a large bounce. Could someone maybe point me in the proper direction of where i should study to learn this. Thanks.

have you tried it with rigidbodys and forces?

yes , i have rigidbody attached at the moment , with physics material for bounciness. but it only bounces if it freely collides with object. If i drive object and maintain forward input , into the bumper, there is no bounce , i want it to bounce me even if i am driving forward and maintaining momentum forward.

I thought maximizing the physics mats bounce to max , etc would work , but nah , :frowning:

bump

hmm , still no one? One more bump , pls help :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm, I seem to have the bumpers working, sweet. Uhh thanks me. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT : oops, hit the button afte being afk , realised i didnt mention how. I used rigidbody of course, collider set as trigger, and used an negative value with AddForce in the rigidbodys velocity direction.

Seems to be working perfect

Nice, thanks for updating with your solution

hahaha. Good job. !
