BUPSHMUP: The Build-em-up Shoot-em-up

I’ve been working on this for a few weeks now, which isn’t long, but it’s taken up most of my free time, so the hours have mounted up. It’s a space shooter (obviously unoriginal), but it also allows you to create your own levels. There’s a YouTube clip further down which explains how it all works, and for those interested, I have created an alpha release (seems pretty usable and stable) which you can currently opt into. I haven’t yet decided whether to restrict this if the interest is higher than expected.

You can create waves of enemies, specifying how many, the path they’ll take, how they’ll shoot, etc, etc. I have plans to extend the customisation but also interested in listening to others’ ideas for incorporation. Sharing your levels currently involves sharing (small) files with standard load/save functionality. I may figure out alternative methods to extend this.

I’ve decided on 3D models rather than sprites to keep everything smooth and clean, and the controls are super-simple (4 directions and fire). I am likely to release this for free when complete. If this interests you, come and visit bankie.com to get involved. I’ll post updates to this thread as I make progress.

On reflection, this forum is perhaps not the best place to let people know about my work - perhaps it just gets lost, or this isn’t of interest to people here, so as a final post in case anyone is watching the thread or who didn’t catch this originally, development has taken a big step forward and I’ve released a new alpha, and this time it’s open for anyone who wants to download it. The video above is therefore out-of-date now due to streamlining and enhancements, including a major update - the ability to create your own paths for enemies to follow. Details will continue to be updated on my web site at bankie.com.
