Buttons child of a GameObject won't work.

In my application I have a layout like so:

EventSystem
Canvas
-- GameObject (Vertical Layout Group)
---- GameObject
---- GameObject
---- GameObject
---- GameObject
---- GameObject

This allows me to split my application into 5 slices evenly and position things for the application how I want them with ease and scalability. The problem is that any buttons that are children of the gameobjects don’t function. The hover doesn’t work, the clicking doesn’t work, etc, etc. So I’m trying to figure out why that is, and how to fix it.

Is there any panel/image/stuff UNDER your button(s) IN THE HIERARCHY ? The lower in the hierarchy is the top layer on the UI and can only interact with the last one I think.
