C# vs javascript.

Is there really any difference other than the syntax?

complete noob question

Isn’t javascript a web script? For websites a shit? Why is it in a 3d engine?

It’s a scripting language. Makes it nicer to program in. As for performance difference, they’re about the same. I’m not 100% sure, though.

Unity uses javascript in their documentation, and it surely makes life easier.

Unity javascript is very different from conventional javascript, it’s more like C# with javascript like syntax. I would recommend using C#, there is more documentation and you can use intellisense in visual studio/monodevelop

Where is the C# documentation? All of Unity’s documentation is in javascript. I’ve been aching for C# documentation, because I’ve heard it’s more powerful, but I can’t find any.

Unity does have very little C# documentation, I was referring to non-Unity documentation of the language and its features. But since Unity from the scripting point of view is just an API translating between languages is trivial.

Hmm…

I think I’m going with javascript. it looks much simpler.

unifycommunity.com has some basic documentation for C# at http://www.unifycommunity.com/wiki/index.php?title=Programming and there is a pretty good free C# book available at programmersheaven.com www.programmersheaven.com/2/CSharpBook
and, of course, the MSDN for C# is always a great resource  Visual C# | Microsoft Learn
