hey guys, I cant find a way to paint vertex colors in c4d, I ony get the 2 colors weight paint
I’d love to hear what kind of workflow you have been using to achieve this.
thanks !

From what I know Cinema 4D does not support vertex painting, so far. Maybe it’s in the more recent releases but I don’t know for sure. Have you tried to contact Maxon support? Usually they respond within a day.
Personally I either use ZBrush or modo if I really really need vertex paint data.
Another way might be to buy one of the editor extensions from the asset store.
I haven’t tried any of them personally but maybe this one might help you out?
thanks for the advice! I will look into that.
This is a very old post but, is anyone still interested in painting vertex maps in Cinema 4D?
Because now, there is a way. And it can even load and save FBX files with vertex paint information (also .OBJ files, from Zbrush).
I created a set of plugins to load, save and create vertex painting (also known as PolyPainting) in Cinema4D. You are able to load .OBJ files that include RGB information attached to their vertexes (as exported from zBrush, 3DCoat or meshlab) or load .FBX files (saved in ASCII/Text in version 6.0 and 7.2) that include RGB information. You can also save .OBJ or .FBX files with vertex painting information. And you can edit or create from scratch any vertex painting in Cinema 4D. Check out the promo video here:
And a few examples of the features as I was creating them:
(There are a few more videos in my Vimeo channel. Just look around)
Please tell me what you think.
Thnx for this post ruimac. I was looking for such a thing. So if it can export to fbx it can also be imported in unity?
Im gonna try it tonight
Sorry for the lateness in my reply. I have been busy, mainly with PolyPaint.
It is now in version 1.5 and I added a few things.
One of the main additions was the ability to paint with alpha too.
And yes, exporting in FBX 7.2 means that it can easily be brought to Unity.
Since the FBX format also includes alpha information, using a vertex shader in Unity that deals with alpha information too (there are some available, free), it is even possible to paint transparencies vertexes in Cinema 4D.
