I’m brand spanking new here so excuse this question if it’s obvious. Is there a way to get the camera to orbit around selected object(s) in the editor. Orbiting the origin is great at first but once your scene starts getting larger it gets a little cumbersome.
For any noobs out there, like me, when they say “press/push/hit F key”, they mean HOLD the F key down, then DRAG your mouse while HOLDING the Right Mouse Button down.
I am a noob myself but none of the answers were satisfactory to me here but the Unity manual in the Scene View navigation and the Movement shortcuts section was the ticket.
(1) Select the object you want to orbit
(2) Press ‘F’ to focus on it (just press once, do not need to hold down)
(3) Hold Alt+left-click, then drag (The same action applies to all mouse types, track pads and even for Mac and the one button)
Orbit only works in 3D mode not 2D
Also note that you do NOT have to hold the ‘F’ key while dragging. Orbiting sort of works if you hold the ‘F’ key while rotating with the Right mouse button but that’s not really orbiting the way Unity suggests. The instructions above work perfectly with a constant distance orbit around the object.
