Can I hide ignored files on Plastic SCM workspace explorer?

Hi, I’m trying to switching from git to Plastic SCM desktop app to collaborate with my artists colleagues.

there is a workspace explorer on desktop app which show all of my files in my project folder.
but the explorer shows every files including ignored files which would never be stored in repository.
It could be very messy and confusing.

Can I hide those ignored files in workspace explorer?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out. We currently have no way of hiding this ignored files from the workspace explorer and you can only hide the from pending changes view.

What you can do is order by status, making all the ignored files go down to the bottom of the list.

Can you describe in detail how are you getting a messy experience with this situation so I can share it with the Product Team?

Unity Version Control Support

Hi Rafael.

Thank you for your reply.

When I’m using UVCS. all of my concern is version controlled files. I don’t care about ignored files. that is why I ignored the files in first place.
But workplace explorer showing every ignored files.
I always have to do mind those files with the ignored icons. “this is ignored, that is ignored…” like that

and this ignored files list is constantly changing. there is a lot of auto generated files in project folder. like csproj file and others.

that is why I don’t want to see ignored file on that list.
I want to see only files that I need to focus. I wish I was looking at my repository rather than my folder.

It would be nice to have that feature.

Thank you.

I think the question that arises is what is your workflow that you’re looking at workspace explorer so much? I think most people spend about 90% of their time in plastic looking at Pending Changes, with maybe another 9% looking at branches/branch explorer/changesets. Actually looking in workspace explorer is something that - while it does get used - is not a day-to-day thing.

I

I don’t know how other people using it. and I’m not sure if I should follow other people’s way because just they are doing it.

time to time I need to inspect my repository. to see what files I have and history of the files.
so I use workspace explorer quite a lot. not more than a pending changes window I guess. but still a lot.

and not showing ignored files is default behavior of every git client I have used.

So my thought was it would be nice to have option to control visibility of ignored files.

This used to be a feature of the old desktop client. It was sadly removed when they redesigned it.
I’d love to have this option back.

Here’s my original thread with a detailed description:

I’m not telling you how you should use it. I’m explaining why the people at Plastic/Unity might not prioritize options for this workflow as it’s not the most used one.
