Can I Make Visual Studio Less Annoying?

I’m using Visual Studio for Mac (Apple Silicon), 17.5.2. I’ve never liked the way it selects whole words when I’m trying to select something. Makes it difficult for me to see what I’m selecting versus what Visual Studio is selecting, and I often miss the first or last character in my selection. Now it’s started selecting every instance of the characters currently selected. As soon as I start making a selection, the whole page lights up. I select “i”, and suddenly every “i” in the document it highlighted. I don’t know why it’s started doing this, but I want it to stop. I’ve gone through every preference, and can find nothing. I miss Mono.

Thanks. But apparently the Mac version is completely different. And there’s no search in the Prefs panel.
