Can I use a git client instead of Plastic to sync to plastic cloud?

I have found the plastic tools very unreliable and time consuming compared to git. It seems like almost every operation i do requires a lot of babysitting and undoing to get it to go through…

Is there a way to sync the plastic cloud repo locally to improve speed and reliability?

Is there a way to use a git client to access a plastic repo?

Hi,

You can use Plastic in a centralized way so your workspace is pointing to a cloud repo (SVN kind of workflow) or you can use it in a distributed way with local repos syncing them with the cloud (kind of git workflow).

The GUI interface is very powerful and user-friendly. Are you using Gluon or Plastic GUI?

Regards,
Carlos.

I’m using plastic desktop point to the cloud. I am using the GUI desktop app (not the unity plugin) i have found it to be very unintuitive. I mean its not that the UI is bad but when you execute an action it often doesn’t work or only half works so then you get stuck in a indeterminate state where things are broken and it takes a lot of time to recover from. Merging is especially problematic. I think that if i can switch to the distributed then recover from problems will be much faster, as it its im really spending too much time struggling with it.

I dont think gluon is the right workflow for me, but i will try the proxy server to see if the number of failed merges and check-ins goes down.

on this page it shows screenshot of the preferences panel and you need to enable proxy server on the general tab. But my preference panel doesn’t show the general tab.

how to i get to the general tab.

So the documentation is wrong on this topic. I was able to contact technical support and they gave an alternative way to get to get to the general tab. Hopefully they fix the documentation. (bascially to add a proxy server you need to do it through the login screen instead of the settings menu) Adding the cache server to the mix seems to be improving speed on certain operations, but other still fail silently or break and then get stuck in between steps.

Not sure if you can provide some more details or a short video so we can better understand the problem.

If you plan to use a proxy server, you need to install and configure it. I would like to get more details of the errors because not very sure if a proxy server will be helpful at this point.

I’m afraid that the GUI documentation is not updated to the new GUI. The screenshots are still showing the legacy GUI.
We need to change it.

No, Plastic Cloud is a proprietary solution and can only be synced with the Plastic SCM client. It is not possible to use a Git client for syncing with Plastic Cloud.
