If I buy the animal assets below, can I use them to create GIF animations and include these animations in my special effects software app? Obviously it’s for commercial use.
Haven’t really found any answers to this. Closest I found was a thread asking someone to “ask a lawyer”, but there should be a clear answer given that many people who buy these assets are obviously intending to use them for commercial purposes.
Yeah I’d reach out to Unity or contact a lawyer for that. You’re allowed to use assets from the store as long as they’re not a substantial part of a product and that might qualify as a substantial part. Alternatively contact the owner of the pack and license it from them directly.
Also, you can not use Asset Store, without agreeing to the Asset Store license.
But if you don’t read it with understanding, you don’t know what you are permitted to do.
Neither we can not help you, with that.
Substantial could refer to the number of assets total or it could refer to the degree of focus an asset receives which is why in this case you either need: (a) to reach out to Unity, (b) a lawyer, or (c) a license to it that is separate from the store (ie obtained from the author of the asset).
You can contact the author using the email address on their publisher page.
In fact it looks like they have their own store with their own license with fewer limitations.
Yes, because you can. You didn’t ask whether you are allowed to.
In any case, these things always border on whether users of your app can re-use that content outside of your app, other than by the usual means that the device itself allows like taking screenshots and recording videos. If such re-use by the user is possible, it would at least border on “redistribution” and then the answer to whether it’s legal is closer to a no.
