I understand that Unity Pro must be licensed for educational use.
Can I use Unity Free in a classroom and install it on student computers for free, or must it too be licensed?
I have searched and searched and what I’ve found are answers that seem to talk around this subject but don’t answer it explicitly.

The free license can only be used if the institution has an annual budget of less than US$100,000 per year. Free can’t be mixed with Pro. Unity Software License Agreement 4.x

Not looking to “mix” anything with anything. Just want to use the “Free” version to teach with. It looks like we can’t. Most public high schools in the US have annual operating budgets WELL in excess of $100,000USD.
Not sure why they allow individuals to use the software for free but don’t encourage public learning institutions to teach with it for free. Other engines make no such restriction (i.e. UDK).
Too bad, seem very short sighted in my opinion.

Looking at studica.com it would appear it is currently $100 per seat, annually. For multiple licenses there appears to be some sort of quote system requiring personal information.
Sorry, seems short sited, IMO. I don’t get why they release the Free version for free for everyone except schools - in fact, I’ve never heard of such a thing.
I’ve got a lot of curriculum built on UDK3 but was hoping to bring Unity in as it has some features I feel make sense for educational use (like editing code being integrated into the environment). And, it looks like Unreal 4 is now free for educational use.
Oh well, I’ll check back in another year and see if they’ve come around.
