Can someone explain what the Baumgarte scale is. (Physics 2D)

I see “Baumgarte scale” and “Baumgarte Time of Impact Scale” in the Physics 2D settings. The tooltip for them isn’t the most descriptive and I cannot find any explanation anywhere.

“Baumgarte’s Method” is an algorithm for resolving certain collision constraints with joints.

The algorithm is very fast, which has made it popular for game development. The key parameter to the algo is the ratio of correction to apply. A value around 0.2 is a common default (including in Box2D, I believe).

Increasing the value tends to cause jitter. If your joints are going wild, this might be your problem.

Decreasing the value tends to cause sponginess. If your joints aren’t doing much, this might be your problem.
