Can unity import vertex animation from max or maya?

Hi I have seen that new fbx support vertex animation. So I tested but unity can’t import vertex animation yet. Am I right or wrong?

thankyou all!

You are right. Unity 2.5.1 uses only bone animations.

Just an official nod here from me to confirm that we don’t support vertex animations. It’s on our radar for future inclusion but it’s just not there today.

That is good to know. …

Which Version of Unity will support import vertex animation?

It would be no fun if we just went and told you

(Unity doesn’t generally release details of what will be in future versions, but you can sometimes pick up some hints from the blogs).

Can I have that? Pretty please!

I’m in desperate need of vertex animations right now and guess I have to think about another solution now since it’s not implemented (yet)…

Bump

Do we have this feature yet?

Because it’s fairly important for cool stuff like flowing curtains and sails.

No its not available in Unity 2.x

Yes we really need vertex anims! ;).

Thanks for this post, I was trying to vertex animate waves but couldn’t import it and now I know why. Does Morph Animation work?

I just released this :

Here is another way to export vertex animation from 3dsmax to Unity !

This is also the reason why so many experienced developers advised me not to go with Unity for game development
I wonder what went through unity’s developers minds when they didn’t implement such a basic and essential function… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

If you are desperate for vertex animations then you could also look at my MegaFiers system, not only does it allow point cache animation using any of the main standard formats, ie .pc2, .mdd and .mc files as well as the most advanced and complete morphing solution for Unity, it also has direct support for master point controller animated vertices in max, and on top of that you get 40+ modifiers such as FFD, bend, stretch, rubber, melt, path deforms, space warps basically the full set of Max modifiers and then some. It also supports exporting of splines from max and soon other packages. There are also custom exporters for Max, Maya, Blender and lightwave. More information can be found on the MegaFiers website at MegaFiers

I wonder If this can help you

At least it helped me .

Is this possible now in 2019?

I think this is the same thing as what they were talking about:
