Can Unity use a joystick twist axis?

I’m thinking specifically of getting a Saitek Aviator. But if that doesn’t support twist in Unity and others do, that would be good to know.

Any recommendations on sticks that are known to have X/Y and twist all working? (I’m thinking specifically on Mac, for now.)

Thanks!

(Yep, another wacky controls project. I can’t help it.)

The twist should just be another axis. Like throttle.

Thanks. That’s my hope–and I know my game pad runs just great on all axes. But some searches on here led me to think that not all axes on all sticks are seen by Unity, and Saitek products were mentioned specifically. Those issues may be long-since solved but I thought I’d better be sure:

(I’m not so much worried about centering issues, if scripting can compensate. Just so long as the axes are read.)

Hi Morgan,

I think I’m the original poster for a couple of those threads. I just dusted off my Saitech ST290 and gave it a spin with a demo I created last year. All the main joystick functions work (including twist) as do the buttons and throttle. Last year when I was testing this I was never able to get the “top hat” mini-joystick to work so switched to the Logitech Rumblepad II for dual joystick support.

As for the “Aviator”, that’s one sweet looking joystick. If it’s like the ST290 the main stick may work, but I wonder whether those “dual throttles” will. If you try it be sure to post the results here.

Cool–thanks.

I’m actually looking to tear a joystick apart a bit to do some experimenting, and the Evo Force is another top candidate.

It could be a while before I get around to this little hobby project, but I will definitely report back!
