Hi Unity members, I am currently developing a open world game but I’d like to know does Unity have the power to produce a complex or AAA titled game? E.G Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry.
Thanks Beau-The-Winner

Sure why not…
Here we go again
I love these threads cause they are more emotional than anything else. I’ll counter with a “no, at this moment Unity isn’t suited for AAA title development”
LET THE GAME BEGIN!!! ![]()
I agree it is not suited, but I do how ever believe it is possible ![]()

Both those games are using Unity and could be considered AAA.
I also like how you use complex and AAA as if their equivalent. They have nothing in common. Bay 12 Games: Dwarf Fortress is perhaps one of the most complex games ever, and surely not considered AAA.
As long as you have hundreds of developers and a ton of money you can make a AAA game with almost any engine or create your own. Question is why you’d want to do that. AAA games cost so much to produce that the only ones you’ll be able to do are sequels to existing game series or tried and true concepts.
Agree. Damn! ![]()

The real question is, are YOU able to produce a AAA title?
Unity is mostly limited by your own imagination.
off topic: anyone know if the new rovio game, Bad piggies (or whatever) is a unity game? Unity are showcasing its art on one of the websites pages, find it odd if it isnt a unity game.

I can exceed your personal limitations .
For a studio of 200 men working full time 60 hours a day for 3 years, it might be limiting .
Answer : as much as we can make a 3D engine inside Microsoft Excel ![]()
Also skills, budget and manpower.
Excel, actually. Didn’t Bungie start by making an FPS with Excel?
Thanks ![]()
Haha, would be awesome ![]()
If so, I started with making an RPG on my Texas Instrument TI-82 calculator, lol

and $1500.
LOL … OK you went there… Sorry to run a coup d’état on your TI 82[;);)] but its all about the TI 59 with the ROM module and magnetic cards. Can you imagine that I programmed a lunar lander game on this calculator. I used to love to see the display blink.:o http://www.vaxman.de/my_machines/texas_instruments/ti-59/ti-59.html

LOL awesome !
ah ah ah …
Uh… NO.
Unity can’t make the game for you.
