Can we bring back standalone installers or something?

I uninstalled Unity because it was broken as hell, nothing was working correctly when I needed it to. I was going to reinstall it. It remains to be seen whether this is my laptop being faulty or Unity itself. One thing is for sure though; Unity runs great on my desktop. So as of right now I don’t have a reliable or even very fast internet connection and I find it very difficult to download Unity again. I am only requesting one feature, however difficult it may be: can we save however much of Unity we have downloaded to a file so that it can be resumed later on?

I don’t know if there is a standalone installer anymore, and I did look just now, but something allowing me to save the entire software to my hard drive would be a life saver!

Well you did not look close enough as there is additional downloads below the main download button.

Indeed there is, but that does not allow me to stop/pause the download halfway through the process because its through my browser. The problem is the internet here is unreliable, and the file size is troublesome due to that.

Use some download accelerator like Flashget then. Those allow pausing and continuing DL.

I’ve been using the Free Download Manager for very large files.

According to this sticky there is a torrent download, but sadly it seems 5.1.1 is the latest available.

I’ve got a boatload of bandwidth. I could put 5.1.2 or 5.1.3p3 up as a torrent if you wanted to go that route. I’d have to do a bit of reading… I’ve never created one so I’m not 100% sure how but can’t be too difficult.

Thanks guys, very helpful replies I will have to keep in mind in case I ever decide to go off somewhere with poor internet service again. I actually managed to download the latest Unity version today, the connection managed to hold for ten hours… it sucks when it slows to 34.6 Kb/sec. I just had to wait and hope. I used the download installer to save the entire file, so at least I won’t be needing to download it again for some time.

I never have problems stopping/resuming downloads through my browser. Sounds like you need to upgrade your browser, since it’s not a Unity problem.

I have never not had that problem so I don’t know what you are talking about :stuck_out_tongue:
