Can we publish Unity 3 webplayers?

Are we allowed to, and can we, now publish Unity3 webplayer builds to the public?

I’ve tested this on a machine without Unity installed and the Unity3 webplayer seems to work.

Any word/advice on this?

last I heard, no… the unity website doesn’t have support for users to install/download the unity3 webplayer yet. I would say it’s not viable until it is officially launched.

Like I said, I built a unity3 webplayer and it installed and ran fine on a pc that never had the editor installed (and I uninstalled the 2.X plugin).

So it does seem to be possible…?

you always were allowed to publish them, the webplayer download system just didn’t provide the U3 webplayer so user ended with the cool infiny loop when trying to access it.

Well when someone posted a Unity3 webplayer last week, it didn’t work for me. And I didn’t install or uninstall anything. Just a version error.

Guys,

Yes, it does work. (Whether it’s meant to or not I am still trying to figure out!) If the machine does not have the 3.0 plugin you’ll get an install button, which if you click on it will download the installer for the player. Install it and you’ll get the Unity content playing. Note that you’ll have a Unity 3 Beta overlay bottom right, so you, and your customers, know you are working with an unreleased product.

Earlier in the beta cycle we did push a version of the webplayer, and memory says it was beta5. Any content made with a newer version of the editor would trigger the auto-update feature, and the plugin would fetch the latest and greatest version, get beta5 and then complain about a version mismatch. The preview versions we have made available to pre-order customers did not have the ability to publish to webplayer for this reason.

The auto-update feature should now pull rc1 and work “as expected”.

Thanks,
Graham

I don’t see that overlay on Mac or windows. It all looks if like it’s all finished/officially-live.
