I wanted to make large levels(with many Scenes and objects) but it seems like i’m not gonna be able to do it cause it lags too much. My games are just for myself to play in my computer. My computer is not that fast. 10GB Ram Mac from 2009. 2.66Ghz.
So that means i can’t do it like i wanted to.
But if i can make several projects … One for each of the scenes . Then i would think that would make it not lag as much.
So if i make several projects can i link them via scripting? If the character reaches a certain point in the current level then open up the other project.
I am unaware of any way to “link” projects to one another.
In any case, the Editor only loads whatever is in the current scene, so splitting scenes to different projects won’t likely help.
Oh Ok…so should i just make really small levels… with very few 3D objects… Will that make it not have that much lag?
LIke my current level i’m making i have 2 full aparments furnished…One House(non furnished ), 7high quality parlm trees,
DAZ’s sold Wall City(The Walled City | Daz 3D)
and DAZ’s Full Urban City 2. (Urban Sprawl 2 The Big City | Daz 3D)
and DAZ’s Rubble ( Rubble 1: Urban Ruins | Daz 3D) several of these
and DAZ’s City Ruins (City Ruins : Vehicles | Daz 3D) few of these
and this City Ruins Bundle | Daz 3D few of these.
And it’s lagging badly. Games like Call of Duty are big like this so that’s why i thought i would be able to do it, but apparently not.
So with my computer specs I can’t really make nothing? How much can i make? just a house with a yard? That suck. he he.
There’s a lot of work that goes into optimizing a game so it can run on lower-end hardware.
From memory DAZ stuff by default comes at crazily high polygon counts, not designed for real-time 3D rendering. That’s more likely to be the source of the lag than your computer - I commonly run Unity on a 2009 MacBook Pro with 4 gigs of RAM and it’s fine.
Oh i see. There’s a decimator product for DAZ and i have it.
You can reduce the Resolution. What would be good to reduce it to? What percentage for games?
10% or 20% or 5%?
I’m doing Environments and buildings.
But also later i’m planning to add enemies(people) and background people just walking around .
5 or 10 percent of what?
It’s super hard to pluck even ballpark figures out of the air because it depends on many things. All I can really say is maybe between 3000 and 20000 polygons for characters, and low hundreds of thousands for environments. Of course mileage will vary based on a huge number of factors, so take those figures with truckloads of salt.
