Can you support my autodesk Maya thread?

If you are a registered user at autodesk, please read my thread there:

In which i try to explain that the subscription model for Maya(not lt)is going to hurt indies and small devs.

And if you feel that its silly, than just dont post anything as i dont want to make a flame thread here as those things tend to escalate easy.

Thank you.

I smell a lock coming…

Why do they need the full Maya package? Isn’t LT sufficient? Or is there something “game breaking” that it doesn’t cover?

No, I will not. The current licensing works.

Thanks for the unnecessary comment Mormon.Lt is good but there are features that are important and not included. But i feel that only a experienced user will understand that and i think it might be a mistake posting here as this is a delicate topic and…Yeah, please dont mind and let it sink.(unless you want to post something constructive in the autodesk forum thread where a debate is welcomed and people shoud see it there)Here it wont make any sence as it was more of an invitation.

It would help your case on the Autodesk forums if you gave actual reasons rather than simply stated that Maya LT is not sufficient. Why is it not sufficient? What does it lack that is a must have for an indie?

Use Blender. Problem solved.

AD won’t change their prices in a foreseeable future. So you either swallow that pill, or look elsewhere.

If you read my thread,i gave reasons there. If you did read it,read it with more atention.(the combination of price and the time per day of use for most people shoud not be fair)
I like using paint effects,i like modeling with deformers(in lt the only useful one is the latice),i use the transfer maps for rendering normal maps(not turtle),the use of animation layers, etc…
These are things that i will add if a debate starts over there.I dont want to create a debate here as i said its not going to help anyone and it was a invitation to the people who think that Autodesk is becoming more greedy than usual.
Nipoco, you are right about them, but as a user and a person i beleve i had to manifest my opinion in their forum(and im not the only one).On the other hand evaluating another modeling software is time consuming and is not something you can do/sujest with light hand as if it was nothing.I will eventualy make the switch to modo in a year or 2 but still have to try.

I have read your post. You gave no actual reasons as to why Maya LT is not sufficient. Rather the entire thing reads as one giant whinge about how you cannot afford Maya and want them to reduce their pricing.

This is not a good way to start a thread concerning price changes. You need to give your reasons up-front. It may also help to proofread your post, run it through a spelling checker, and format it properly. If you cannot be bothered to spend a few minutes doing so then why should Autodesk spend a few minutes reading your suggestion?

You have recently made a thread on Autodesk. I am sure someone will reply to it, but not in an hour or so.

Out of curiosity, why do you think this will happen?

He has years of experience with Maya. It’s not that easy to change software, especially when he has a year old project going.

Ryiah,as english is not may native language and the way i express my self,i supose might be one of the reasons you didnt understood.First in my thread there i was speaking about Maya and not maya lt.Its in the title.
Second.I will make another example for you since you didnt understood the one from my post
-You work at lets say ubisoft 8-9 hours a day for years using maya full. After work you go strait home to continue working on you game and hope to make it big.The day have 24h.You manage to work 2-3 hours more at home on your project.Do you think that 2-3 hours a day will justify 250€ a month subscription?I allready stated that that X named developer will want to continue his work with maya and not the limited version. He wants to be able to have the same freedom at his home that he has at work.
Third-i wasnt whining as this thread was a general question and im only a number.I wasnt speaking directly for me as im sure that no one will move a mountain just for one person.

I know the thread was made an hour ago.As i said,i just wanted to inform people that exist and see if there were other suporters that think the same or have other reasons.

About those 2 years thing.(im probably wrong)but im sure there arent indies stupid enough to pay 1600+€ a year per seat for maya. Most of the incomes will come from big companyes but with time when you see that you need to make cuts, expensive license will be one of the first things to go and switching to another software(or make a special deal behind doors)This is no indie teritory.

No, I understand fully. You cannot afford the new subscription costs for Maya. What you apparently are misunderstanding is that I’m not debating Maya vs Maya LT. I’m simply pointing out that if you want Autodesk to take you seriously then it has to read as something more than simply a complaint.

You stated that you have reasons and will put them in the thread if someone posts, but I’m saying that you need to give those reasons up front if you want anyone to take your post seriously.

Additionally I’m stating that formatting and a spelling checker are highly important. You mentioned that English is not your native language. Isn’t it good then that basic formatting is language agnostic and spelling checkers do not need you to know the proper spelling?

My comment is more useful then the OP. If you missed the hint let me spell it out for you.

This is the Unity forums. It’s for stuff about Unity. The mods have been very clear that threads on other software belong on forums for that software.

The discussion page is already becoming painful to use with half the threads locked because they have nothing at all to do with Unity or game development.

If that this wasn’t clear, let me put it another way.

GET THE HELL OFF THIS FORUM.

Sorry to be harsh, the rants been building up for a while. Yours is just the thread that finally snapped me.

My rant is a bit different. I’m annoyed at the fact that so many people are using the “[language] is not my native language” card as an excuse to skip formatting and running a spell-checker. Formatting a post does not require you to have more than basic knowledge of the language (ie know where a sentence begins and ends) and how to apply formatting (ie bold, italic).

Likewise running a spell-checker does not require you to know how to spell. That’s the entire point of one after all. Better yet you don’t even need a third-party application because most modern browsers will put a squiggly line under the word. You can then right-click and select one of the options. Just pick the one with the fewest changes.

Ryiah, the time vs money thing that im explaining is not a complaint, its the Reason im giving. And i havent mentioned anywhere that i cant afford it.I can,but is going to be hard on my budget.

Anyway,i created this thread as a invitation for people to know about what i was doing(not for my self only). And as expected its starting to turn to something else (as most unity threads here as people like to speak too much and not read).I only informed maya users about my thread. That is all.
As i dont want to explain my self more i will humbly ask the Mods to close the thread as its probably not going to end well.
Thank you and will try not to make the same mistake again.

There is a thread on Polycount called “Blender Mega Thread” were professionals who switched from Maya to Blender share useful tips.
I didn’t say it is easy. So better start sooner, rather than later.

Like I said AD won’t change their prices for the real Maya suite anytime soon.

I love the smell of a locked thread in the morning.
