Can you use the Animator to transition between Alembic animations?

Sorry, I know this is really basic stuff, but I’m still trying to figure out the pros and cons of using alembics.
If you have the option to use fbx animations, is there any reason why you would use alembics?

Alembic is useful for prebake data for things you cannot reasonably animate at real-time (due to performance cost) such as complex fluid simulations, complex explosions that shatter geometry, varying mesh topology. Alembic’s primary job is to bake entire scenes to facilitate interop between Digital Content Creation tools. For most case, FBX would be enough, especially if the user wants to user animators and get a fine control on the animation based on events/game inputs.
