Nice work!

My two pence:

  • When the enemies are almost dead they become quite hard to see, which is neat because it makes them a little harder to fight near death. The downside is that sometimes you think you’ve killed them already, then wonder what it is pushing you (might just be the settings on this monitor). Perhaps they could flash or something when they bump into you?
  • As cancer is an infectious affliction that spreads to healthy cells, would the enemies here have a similar mechanic (ie. converting otherwise harmless or helpful objects to themselves)?
  • I’d personally like a little less drag after thrusting, to make the whole “move-turn-shoot-carry on” more fluent. In other words, if you drift for longer, you can keep moving while you turn to shoot enemies. Just my preference though, maybe worth tweaking? Too much would be hard to steer.
  • The opening “what’s up” text should not end with a question mark, as it ends with an instruction (unless you split it into two sentences) =)

I seem to be getting a split second of a title screen, then it hangs at a blue screen forever (there is also a “Mute” option).

Nice work so far.

  • I agree with Novodantis regarding the need for greater inertia. Since you can’t strafe while shooting, at least it would be cool to shoot sideways while gliding.
  • In my opinion, you might want to make slightly less resistant monsters and turrets and increase the overall damages you get from everything.
  • The last thing is about bonuses. Apparently there are different bonuses with different effects (life, weapon power) but I was unable to recognize them while playing.

@Novodantis - Cheers, had lower drag to start with but the inertia caused control issue for new players, good points will see what I can do for version 0.3!

@-VILE- Good point need a loading bar on the intro page to make sure the next level of the game has streamed in before you can move to the next screen!

@Krobill - Nanotech will rule, so let’s be nice to it ;o)! I’ll have a play with the resistance and damage settings, good point on the power up types.

I was thinking of changing the GUI, have the shields and energy bars horizontal on the bottom of the screen would that work better with more of a volume style bar, what do you think.

Krobill - Just checked and the power up’s act as a boost to energy and shields as well as weapon strength the idea is you have sucked up some DNA of the virus along with bio-fuel!

Updated game now has improved HUD energy and shield bars as well as the inclusion of WASD / Cursor keyboard input to allow strafing…

Going for the Kongregate Competition so all feedback welcome…

Current development build of Cancer Wars with lots of Unity Pro (Trial) features turned on (Deferred Lighting / Video Grain / Lots of Lights).

Now if only the Unity would allow short term competition Pro Licenses ;0)

Still a few bugs to iron out and some work to get it ready for entry to the Kongregate Unity Competition.

Updated now the 3d beta version is online…

Well a quick update Cancer Wars will not make it to Kongregate it was close I have got the new GUI working and the scoring system mostly implemented…

The problem was the core or engine of the game is in Javascript and the GUI wrapper C# and after jumping through quite a few hurdles and breaking my script / gameObject links a few times when I needed to relocate code to make it visible (moving code into the Standard Assets folder jumps it up the compiler/visibility ladder).

Finally and of course with only hours to go to the deadline I have to throw in the towel!

So it might be a while but once Cancer Wars has had it’s Javascript to C# open heart surgery it will be back…

Extended deadline and Javascript to C# converter (on asset store) have allowed me to make the deadline just, please check it out…
