Cannon Ballers - A Stylish Defender/Pirate Game

Hey everyone! Buddy_DoQ with Steamburger Studios, and I’m here with a preview of our first game, Cannon Ballers! In a previous life I was a Cinematic Designer on games like SWTOR and Defiance, now I’m going indie with a group of IT pros. That’s life for you!

You’re a touch/mouse controlled Cannon trying to defend your ship from an endless onslaught of enemy cannon fire. Heavily inspired by missile defense style games, like Bob-omb Squad and Missile Command. Simple arcade fun, designed for spending 2~5 minutes per session.

Cannon Ballers is now on week 7 of development, feedback is more than welcome!

Our ultimate target is for mobile platforms.

I’ve done a few Friday Feedbacks on /r/gamedev, but now it’s time to spread the love a bit more. Latest feature is a working in-game upgrade shop. It’s still in an early state of functionality, as there’s currently no way to unequip your upgrades. There’s an intentional exploit to gain gold coins quickly, feel free to use it to test the shop!

Focus for next few betas is telling a “story” with the background elements, and fixing up all the audio.

Cheers!

Ahoy, are you ready for some updates!?

New update on Cannon Ballers this week, check out the link at the top to play the online version!

Big changes include a better shopping experience: check boxes to select your various cannons (rather than getting stuck with the last one you purchased), and a new cannon type to purchase. Also changed up the way enemy cannonballs fall to use less CPU power (hurrah for learning!) In the same vein I reduced particle counts across the board to gain a few extra FPS on lower-end devices.

New SFX, with a few more incoming! Replaced all of the impact sounds with a more appropriate style, and created some new ones to flesh out the soundscape.

One last thing, your cannon now animates! Been a long time coming, and it ended up as a last minute 3am addition that took 2 seconds with the awesome built-in unity animator. Who knew? (well, I know you guys knew, but I didn’t! [pro-tip, read all the docs])

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!
