Cannot find, set up, or anything MonoDevelop

Hello all,

I’m desperately trying to get MonoDevelop to work with Unity, but I’m at my wit’s end and trying not to cry from frustration. I’ve re-installed Unity three times today with every single package option available to me checked, and also tried installing MonoDevelop directly from their website. I can’t seem to get anything to work, as I cannot find a monodevelop.exe file to select from Edit > Preferences > External Tools > External Script Editor, nor does it show up as it should. The only thing I can find is a mono.exe from the MonoDevelop install, which does absolutely nothing.

Any and all help you could suggest would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there is any additional information I could provide that can lead to a solution. I’ll be checking this thread constantly.

Unity deprecated support for MonoDevelop, that might be the reason:

I recommend using a more modern IDE, such as Visual Studio Community, VS Code (both free) or JetBrains Rider. All of them work very well with Unity and have a vibrant community.
