Cannot Upload My Manual Activation File Unity_v4.x.ulf.txt

Hi,

I’ve followed the steps to manually activate Unity on documentation page, but I’m having a problem. After I save my “Unity_v4.x.ulf.txt” file and then go back to Unity’s Manual Activation and click “Load License”, it does NOT let me select the “Unity_v4.x.ulf.txt” file… I am using a MAC OS and downloaded the Unity-4.1.0.0.dmg

I’m stuck on Step 8 on this document Manage your license | Unity Hub | 3.0 where it says “Nearly done! You should have received a file in return, as with Step 4, save this to your machine in a directory of your choice.”. I did download that file, and I try uploading it but the Load License window wont’ let me select the file as if it’s the wrong file type or something.

I have the “Unity_v4.0.0f7.alf” file and the “Unity_v4.x.ulf.txt” file. I even tried renaming the “Unity_v4.x.ulf.txt” file to “Unity_v4.x.ulf”, not sure why it’s .x.ulf.txt… is that the correct extension?

Thanks in advance,
Lamp

Remove .txt so that it becomes “Unity_v4.x.ulf”. This is the correct extension and will solve the issue.

Hi All,

I am also getting the same problem. I even tried by removing .txt from the License file. Then also it doesn’t allow me to load the File for activation.

How to solve this problem ?

Please suggest me…

Hi Ravi

You need to change your file from

Unity_v4-1.x.ulf.txt

to

Unity_4.x.ulf

Hope this helps.

Hello, I have computer without internet and without the option of connecting any external data storage, so i can’t copy the .ulf file to the system.
I have rewritten the downloaded ulf file in the destination pc using notepad and save the file with the .ulf extension. Unity doesn’t accepts it. I have tried to rename the .ulf file as described here, checked the permissions in the c:\ProgramData/Unity folder, check 3 times the accuracy of rewritten file because of tricky symbols “O” vs. “0” and “l” vs. “1” or capitalized “i”. But nothing helped. Can anyone assist me with the such issue. I need to activate a free version and also payed license version.

Hi there

If you can’t connect to the internet nor use USB or external data storage in general to move the license file (.ilf) then I’m afraid you can’t activate. It’s not possible to simply copy the content of the license file either on the destination PC which is why it failed.

Thank you for you reply, but the .ilf and the .ulf is just xml formatted file with tags and data…
In the past I have rewritten the .ilf in the internet connected PC, uploaded it, and after that I have used the generated .ulf file on the machine that was able to use USB, and it works! But if i rewrite the .ulf file I wasn’t. What can be the solution? Because in addition to the free license I have bought one professional license and I am not able to use the program.

Drop the support team an email and mention this post. Please include the order number, serial number, and as much information as possible about error messages, possibly with photos of the screen (assuming you cannot share screen shots.) As Cecile says, it might not be possible to get you activated, but the support guys will try and help out. (Also, bear in mind that mixing free and Pro is not permitted.)

Hello fellow Unity users!

I found that when I had this problem still after renaming the file that when you secondary click the license file you want and select quick look it then lets you open the file. Doing this loaded the license for me.

I hope this helped!
