Can't apply a normal map to imported model

Hi there I’m no 3D artist so I just know little of the basics, I downloaded some models supposedly to be used in 3d printing and the converted them to FBX using 3DsMax converter, I can see the object in my scene I can assign a material to the object but the normal map is not visible, if I apply the same material to a cube generated in unity it does work.

What I’m I missing or what should I do to enable the normal maps in these objects?

Make sure the normal map is actually imported as a normal map in the import settings.

@jointothedarkside You have to actually make a normal map of the texture to have it work. Unity does not turn textures into normal maps. I use Gimp for this purpose.
